BRYSON KROHN
Lead Climber
Bryson Krohn
Bryson’s heart belongs to Colorado, yet life has placed him here. Along with his wife and little boy, he has found a new home among the trees and here at Ellison.
Through his developement as a climber he has become an essential part of the team and earned his place. We will continue to expect great things from him, wherever his journey takes him.
DUSTIN BADGER
Arborist - Climber
Dustin Badger
By his mid 20’s Dustin had fallen in love with both rock climbing and his wife Megan. He was fortunate enough to turn the passion of climbing into a career. He considers himself “extremely lucky” to have been able to find such an absolute perfect job, with the exception of Winter, racoons, and wasps. Becoming an ISA Certified Arborist in 2012 and starting Ellison Tree Co. full time in 2016, he hopes to continue climbing as long as physically possible.

ABOUT US
Look, we are just a couple of guys that really, really, really enjoy what we do. We also happen to be really good at it.
It's pretty simple... we plan on doing this as long as physically possible. It's a difficult job, a labor of love. Through the highs and lows, the physical injuries and horrible weather... the only way, the only reason we can continue on this road is because we have too. Its not even a choice anymore. The heights, the adrenaline, even when the smell of 2-cycle hits... Its all part of our experience, and everyday is a new one. One of the biggest fears in my life is knowing that one day I will no longer be able to climb.
What we remove from your property we trade in blood, sweat, and yes...even tears.
And on really nasty jobs, maybe even a bit of our soul is left behind.
We find extreme value in honest and skilled work. It's more than a job for us, this is our craft.
Trees, it's what we do.
-Dustin

GRINDING IT OUT SINCE 2015
OUR SPECIALTY

TECHNICAL REMOVALS
...It's what we do.
We pride ourselves in being able to do what others cannot. We are often called in to take care of trees that are just too difficult. Tight rigging situations, too far for the crane, no bucket truck access... this is where we really stand apart. We have the confidence and skill to get it done, and the insurance to back it up.

WHAT WE CAN DO FOR YOU
-Tree Management-
This includes everything from selecting nursery stock to removing large trees when that time comes. Hanging tree swings to reviewing landscape plans. We work closely with many other professionals in the industry, to assure quality and consistency. If your needs are outside our scope of work, we will point you in the right direction.
PRUNING

All pruning done according to ANSI A300 standards
REMOVALS

Hazardous trees? Let's take those out!

RESOURCES AND EDUCATION

TREES ARE GOOD
managed by the ISA
"...an educational website providing homeowners and other tree owners with reliable information regarding the benefits of trees and how to properly care for trees in an urban environment."
ARBOR DAY FOUNDATION
tree nonprofit
"...nonprofit membership organization dedicated to planting trees."

USU TREE BROWSER
Tree selection tool
"We at USU Extension forestry hope that this new online resource will improve people's knowledge of the trees growing around them and how better to use trees in the landscape" Mike Kuhns
A UNIQUE APPROACH
"Plant Specific"
It's easy to give a general solution as a "cure-all"... for example: many "tree guys" would recomend thinning or fertalization on nearl every tree they come accross.......

EAB
Emerald Ash Borer
... an insect native to asia. It has virtually no native predators, allowing it to spread freely across the U.S. It's safe to assume that it will, once it hits our area, kill any unprotected Ash tree within a couple years.

DUSTIN BADGER
ISA Certified Arborist #UT-4410A
I am an arborist by trade, a climber by passion, and an expert at what I do. For ten years now, I have consistently been removing dead hazard trees, managing healthy trees, and selecting and planting new trees for our future. I have spent more time in a tree than I have with my wife and three beautiful daughters. I have watched the sun rise and set while in a tree, sometimes the same tree, same day. I have been sunburnt and frostbitten. From wasps to butterflies. Rain, snow, and extreme Davis County winds. Countless high fives and hamburgers. I have, with a headlamp and no shoes, climbed 70' to the top of my trees just to see the glow of Salt Lake City 30 miles south while the sounds of live music spill from the Centennial Amphitheater, because the moment called for it. Heard news of good friends passing, and discovered I was to become a father, all while in a tree. I have put more hours on my saws than miles on the road in my early twenties... and that was a lot of miles. I have been scared out of my mind and I have had solitary moments of absolute tranquility. I have invested a great deal of time, energy, and love into my craft. sometimes I look in the mirror and I see a different person than the one who started climbing trees 10 years ago. My face and my hands have aged and weathered in the tree, and I wouldn't have it any other way. I have a deep respect for the unspoken relationship between a human and his living environment. I have dripped sweat, blood, and tears for my trade. Back into the soil. I am an arborist. It has become me.
Trees, it's what I do.

OUR LANDSCAPES MOST VALUABLE ASSETS
As arborists, we are tasked with protecting them. The urban landscape presents an infinite number of stresses our trees must endure in order to survive. Soil compaction, limited resources, excessive fertilizing, poor pruning techniques... the list is long and exhausting.
We live in a unique environment. Davis County is a desert. It has been for a very long time. Go outside, look around you. Virtually every tree you see has been planted by hand. Before the Salt Lake Valley was settled, there were few trees found here.
Hot, dry summers and cold, heavy, snowy winters. Extreme winds and a seasonal inversion of dense pollution. Our optimal growing season is a matter of weeks. We are growing our trees in a harsh environment. A little extra help can go a long way.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
SHOULD I TOP MY TREE?
DO I NEED TO TRIM MY TREES?
No. Topping is an outdated practice based largely upon a general lack of knowledge. 40 years ago we didn't know better, but now we do, regardless of what your grandpa thinks. If you are considering topping your trees, consider removing them.
Hmmm... yes and no. While tree trimming is one the most common practices in tree care, it is often done unwarranted, being counterproductive if your goal is to maintain your trees health.
MY TREE LOOKS SICK, WHAT'S WRONG?
DO YOU PROVIDE FREE ESTIMATES?
Any number of things could be wrong with your tree. Often times, it is a combination of problems. Diagnosing a tree is a tricky thing. It's a simple process, but it's easy to screw this one up. Identify the problems and treat them individually.
Yes. Estimates are free and most can be done fairly quickly. however, If more time is needed to evaluate a larger and or more complex project, a separate consultation may be needed.

DAVIS COUNTY TREES
-Dustin Badger-
They say the best time to plant a tree is 20 years ago. The second best is now.
As an arborist and a Davis County resident, I want to drive through my community and see strong, healthy mature trees lining the streets. That takes time. It takes planning. It takes vision.
